Madrid, 6th July 2004 - The objective of such initiative is to improve the education system in the province of Nassau in Mozambique, by collaborating in the projects that Intermon Oxfam has in the region since 1994.
Under this agreement, Tiscali Spain will designate 0.7% of its revenues perceived by the use of the Internet by its clients, to the educational programme deployed by Intermon Oxfam in this country.
Tiscali Spain has created a microsite in order to keep updated its clients of the type of Project and the destination of the donations. It also offers a variety of contents about Nassau as well as the possibility to start collaborating with this cause. The microsite hosts spots and videos of Nassau as well as postcards and screensavers that can de downloaded, used and shared.
In Nassau, Mozambique, only 23 out 100 girls can study. The subordinated roll that the dominant culture provides the women complicates even more the situation of a weak and bad coordinated educational system, with scarce and under prepared teachers.
For this reason, since 1994, Intermon Oxfam is performing a seamless educational programme and thanks to it, schools are being created and equipped, teachers are trained and parents are educated about the importance of the education for girls. Intermon Oxfam works jointly with local organizations to provide the first lessons in their mother tongue instead than in Portuguese, so that the little ones can understand them.
