For those who are not able to attend the event, Tiscali will be hosting some of the key debates in the lead up to the festival weekend on the community area of www.tiscali.co.uk. Members of the public can express their views and join in debates such as Should footballers be role models? and Can films change the world? The Battle of Ideas debates and essays from some of the key speakers are available at www.tiscali.co.uk/community/battleofideas.
Tiscali is also sponsoring The rise of Citizen Journalism debate which takes place on Sunday 29th October. The debate will assess the impact the public has on setting media agendas through the increasing popularity of mobile media and the ever expanding blogsphere. Debate speakers will argue whether editorial standards are now under threat or whether it is a valuable counterbalance to traditional journalistic practices.
