London, October 2007 - Tiscali TV’s on-demand children’s channel Scamp has been short-listed for "channel of the year" at this year's British Academy Children's Awards. The short-listing is a landmark achievement and a UK first for an on-demand channel.
Scamp is a unique, on-demand pre-school channel that allows children to make their own choices about what they want to watch using a pictorial programme guide in a safe, advert-free environment using the brightly designed Minimote (exclusive to Tiscali, a remote control that allows them access only to the children's channels). Children can explore Scamp independently choosing from a wide range of high quality programmes including Thomas and Friends, Teletubbies and Postman Pat.
“On-demand television provides a fantastic new distribution opportunity for great, British children’s programming,” says Simon Hunt, Tiscali's Director for TV content. “On-demand lends itself perfectly to children’s programming, giving parents the piece of mind that their children are in a completely safe environment and removing the stress of regular scheduled programming and allowing parents to manage the time and type of TV they watch. Programme makers and are beginning to realise the growing popularity and possibilities of on-demand television and Tiscali TV is proud to have its pioneering approach in this area recognised by BAFTA.”
Tiscali TV's Scamp will be the only on-demand children’s channel up against CBeebies, Nickelodeon UK and Nick Jr UK in the channel of the year category. The winners will be announced at a gala ceremony on Sunday 25 November 2007.
