Tiscali Homezone

Cagliari, 12th October 2007 - Tiscali, the independent telecommunication company, in partnership with Nokia, the first worldwide producer of mobile phones, announces the beginning of the experimental service “Tiscali Homezone”, that unifies in a single device the benefit of mobile and of the landline.

The testing aims at translating in a real benefit for the end user the effects of the converging phenemenon that is daily modifying, and even more eliminating, the difference between means and tools of communication.

Tiscali Homezone beta test is an experimental closed-number program targeting Tiscali customers with a DSL and VoIP contract with two phone numbers on Tiscali line. To have access to the test to users must have a GSM/UMTS Nokia compatible with the service and a Wi-Fi access point. In fact, Tiscali Homezone will be available for free for a year on three dual-mode new generation Nokia devices of Eseries line:  Nokia E61, Nokia E61i, Nokia E65.

Over the domestic coverage of Wi-Fi, Tiscali Homezone switches on the mobile phone the benefits of the landline: in fact it will allow to carry out and receive calls directly on the dual-mode Nokia mobile.Out of Wi-Fi coverage (at home or at office), the mobile phone will run as a normal mobile phone and will carry out and receive calls by the net of its own mobile operator.

Alessandro Mondini Branzi, CEO at Nokia Italia said: “The converging process that is involving telecommunication, the Internet and media, has lead us to develop new multifunction products. Nowadays as in the past, our challenge is to provide our customers with all they need in a single device. Our last generation products born with a converging fixed-mobile imprint and we are glad to partner with Tiscali in this important experimentation ”.

Mario Mariani, CEO at Tiscali Italia, says: “Tiscali is always in the frontline in the testing of new solutions. We have embraced the converging process since the beginning, contributing in the last years to speed up its development. I am sure that the testing we are going to begin with the important support of Nokia will allow us to offer a converging fixed-mobile commercial proposition, highly performing and competitive, that is a natural evolution to us, also following the recent agreement of MVNO with Telecom Italia”.
